This is a school project at Hyper Island where we were supposed to come up with a business idea and a develop it into a concept. We started of with 50 ideas, got them down to 5, refined and finally choose this one. TerraByte, a new unique web browser that allows you to surf the globe instead of using for example google or yahoo.
Challenge:
The challenge here was all the ideas. To come up with 50 pretty good ideas, then kill many of your darlings to end up with 5, and then agree on 1. Further on, a big challenge was to create a very selling concept and business plan (you can download the concept book here below). And of course, create a visual beta that explains how this browser would work and why it's a concept that the investors should invest in.
Solution:
Our solution is to be seen here to the right, both images, a video and a concept book. The solution to the problem was to create several layers on the globe, in this case, google earth. The idea was that you pay a certain amount of money depending on what layer you want to be in. The outer layer, first visible when you enter the site, are not only the most expensive, but also the "biggest". For example, a spot in the outer layer can be as big as a whole country. The the top layer, visible from "outer space", are for the big business's like Coca Cola and Nike. The most expensive layer to be placed in. When you zoom in closer to the earth, you see layer two, for semi big companies like national corporations that's not global. And finally, the third layer for the smaller companies like the corner shop you have in your block. The cheapest layer but "only" the size of 100 square meters on the map, pretty much the same as a regular block.

On this project I worked together with a team from Hyper Island, all students at Digital Media 2009.
